Our Philosophy & values
The Brain Blossom Center’s approach is family-centered, with a focus on empowering parents to understand their child’s brain better and supporting them with actionable strategies.
The center also embodies a spirit of innovation and community support, aiming to be not just a clinic but a hub for education, brain-based learning, and connection for the entire family.
The Brain Blossom Center began with Dr. Amy Spoelstra’s personal connection to the challenges many families face. As a child, she watched her younger brother struggle with learning difficulties, sensory sensitivities, and intense emotions. Her father’s own discovery of neuro-optometry helped her family find early support, and his deep involvement in this field inspired Dr. Amy’s lifelong drive to understand the brain’s role in development. Guided by this inspiration, Dr. Amy pursued studies in pediatric chiropractic care, functional neurology, and advanced techniques in applied kinesiology, primitive reflex integration, and more, combining these fields into a brain-centered model of care.
After graduating from Sherman Chiropractic College, Dr. Amy and her husband, David, moved across the country to establish Spoelstra Family Chiropractic in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Here, Dr. Amy was determined to serve families by creating a unique brain-based program, initially called FOCUS, which combined her growing expertise to support children and adults facing learning, sensory, socialization, behavioral, and developmental challenges. The program quickly gained traction, reaching hundreds of families locally and soon expanding to serve distance clients virtually.
In 2017, with demand for this unique model of care growing, Dr. Hannah Layden joined the practice. Bringing her own passion for brain-based pediatric care, Dr. Hannah’s partnership allowed Dr. Amy to focus on expanding her work even further, with an emphasis on teaching and training other doctors.
Since then, FOCUS has been transformed and rebranding as the Brain Blossom Program to reflect its growing reach and evolving impact. The success of these methods led to hundreds of inquiries from practitioners eager to learn how to implement this brain-centered approach to support families in their communities. Dr. Amy has since trained over 250 doctors and developed an Elite Access group of over 160 practitioners who benefit from ongoing mentoring in neurodevelopmental and brain-based care.
Today, the Brain Blossom Center continues to evolve, bringing together advanced clinical tools, personalized care, and innovative brain-centered exercises to help families and children overcome challenges and thrive. With a dedication to accessibility, the center aims to give back to the community through education and service, ensuring that even more families can benefit from the support they need.
Through their shared vision, Dr. Amy and Dr. Hannah strive to foster holistic development and empower families, building a community committed to optimizing brain health and supporting resilience.
